How do the Search and Replace fields work?

For Docuboxx Generator products, Search and Replace fields can be created in the InDesign template by adding square brackets with a recognizable name. These fields can be used for variable input when ordering without the need to create separate fields. This can be done directly in the InDesign template.

Example template

In the InDesign template, the texts will remain in the template, but where the text is variable, a search and replace label must be placed as in the example below.
A label is the text between the square brackets. The labels are then replaced by the text entered by the orderer in the web field.

Manage publication fields

When labels are added in the InDesign template, they can be set up for the Publications under 'Manage publication fields'. The publication fields that can now use this search and replace labels are:
  1. Text field
  2. List field
  3. Email field
  4. Telephone or Faxfield (can only use the national formatting)

Creating Search/replace field

Text field - example

Create a new publication field gives it a name. Under Search/replace, select the label to be associated with the publication field (the list shows all labels indicated in the InDesign template, except for the labels already assigned).

List field - example

Create a new publication field gives it a name. Under Search/replace, select the label to be associated with the publication field.

In this list (search/replace) only the unlinked labels are shown. The label 'function' label is not shown, in the example, as it has been linked to the publication field (text field).

Labels may appear several times in the text see example at the top of this article label [contact person]. They will have the same content entered by the orderer for that search and replace field.

The Email field and the Phone or Fax field, the same instructions apply.

Basic fields

The other option to use Search/replace labels are the basic fields that can also be set up in Publications. The Search/replace function is available for the following basic fields:
  1. Data list fields
  2. Metadata fields
  3. Business, branch and department fields
  4. User and address fields
Assigning Search/replace labels is the same as with the publication fields.

Establish publication

After the labels are linked to the fields, the publication fields will have to be linked to a frame under 'Order up publication'.

The labels in the document are replaced by the contents of a publication field.
When replacing the text, the layout is preserved; linking a paragraph style when setting up does not affect it.

The order of the publication fields is not important.
Docuboxx Generator replaces the labels in the order of the labels from the template.

Quote
Points of attention
1.Each 'Label' is unique within a publication (one field can be assigned to one 'Label');
2.When generating the PDF, unused 'Labels' are filtered out of the document (replaced by an empty text);
3.Search/replace is only available for interactive input;
4.When searching/replaced using a telephone or fax field will always be applied to national formulation;
5.Search/replace is not available for RichTextFields;
6.Search/replace is not available for Image Fields.
